FAQ’s
We’re here to Help you with any Questions.
How do I get there?
A member of our staff or a private shuttle (depending on our staff’s availability) will go and pick you up personally at the airport and take you to your hotel. Whether you arrive at San Diego’s International Airport, a different domestic airport, any hotel or residence in the San Diego area or at San Diego’s Train Station, we will make sure to be there for you and get you to your destination safe and hassle free. There’s a transport fee, which you can pay in cash or check.
The drive from San Diego’s International Airport to the hotel/clinic is about 40 minutes (approx. 28 miles).
Is that area safe?
Where am I staying?
There are numerous options from hotels, houses, condos and Air B&B rentals ranging in prices within the area. We can always present you with the best available options and help you book ahead of time.Patients and companions accommodation is not covered by St. Andrews Clinic.
*We recommend patients to leave any valuable belongings at their hotel since St. Andrews is not responsible for any lost items at the clinic*
What happens in the case of a medical emergency?
Does the clinic provide any food?
I am currently taking medications/supplements, do I need to suspend them?
Do I need my passport/any other document when I get to Mexico?
While you don’t need to show your passport when crossing the Mexican border via car, you do need it in order to process your permit. Any visitor who stays more than three days in the country is required to have a visitor permit by law. It costs around 30 USD per person, which you can pay with Mexican pesos, US dollars or credit/debit. The whole process is done at the international border and takes less than 15 minutes. The permit is valid for 6 months and throughout the country.
In order to cross the border back into the US, you will need your passport/valid government issued ID.
Do I need to exchange currency before going to Mexico/Will my credit card work?
With Tijuana being a border city, you have the option to pay in either currency as they are both accepted. Some establishments may have different currency rates ranging in cents, nonetheless, there is a standard which most places follow and there are many currency exchange places within walking distance from the hotel/clinic.
Regarding credit cards: Most establishments (pharmacies, restaurants, supermarkets, etc.) take credit cards, however, American Express may not work since it is a credit card that most countries outside the US don’t accept. Your credit card may auto-block as a safety measure if you make an international purchase depending on your bank, so we encourage you to let them know ahead of time that you will be traveling to Mexico to avoid any inconveniencies to you and your companions.
There is also an ATM that allows you to withdraw US dollars within walking distance from the clinic. An international withdrawal fee will be applied and the amount will depend entirely on your bank.
For the most part, checks are not accepted.
The vast majority of small businesses like food stands, small restaurants, and souvenir stores only take cash, so keep that in mind.
Will my phone work in Mexico?
Yes, but only if you have an international plan. We encourage our patients to get an international calls and data plan from your service provider (functions may be blocked if the Roaming option is turned off). Make sure to have someone help you with your cellphone needs before coming to Mexico in case you are not very familiar with technology since there’s very little we can do to help you with service related issues.
Remember you can always use our phone from 9 am to 2 pm PST. You get free international calls to the US and Canada during your stay.
I plan on traveling with companions, what are some activities we could do?
